Ispesl is a technical-scientific body in the National Health
Service and reports to the Ministry of Health as regards all aspects of occupational
safety, health and prevention.
In detail, the Institute carries out the following activities:
- Research, analysis, experimentation and drafting of criteria and methodologies
for the prevention of accidents and professional diseases, with particular
attention to the technological evolution of industrial plants, materials,
equipment and productive processes.

Identification of safety criteria and of detection methods for
the approval of machinery, components of industrial plants, equipment, personal
protective device, as well as for specific application techniques.

Governmental task of approval concerning current industrial products
and conformity controls of products to the approved prototype.

Occupational prevention against major hazards related to particular
industrial activities.

Occupational prevention against chemical, physical and biological
exposure risks at work.

Advisory in drafting regional and national health Plan and national
health status report, as well as technical advisory to local health agencies
and, on demand, to public and private bodies.

Technical scientific standardization of methodologies and procedures
of occupational safety and health risk assessment.

Analysis and proposal action concerning the main issues of safety
and health at work and life.

Assistance to companies.

Certification acknowledgement of laboratories and of certification
bodies as provided for in the European legislation and in international treaties.

Technical-scientific advisory to the Ministry of Productive Activities
as regards the vigilance on products conformity to safety criteria.

Advisory on demand by the Ministry of Productive Activities or
on self-initiative, concerning certification and testing procedures, aimed
at the harmonization of methodologies at the national and European level.

Activities of research, education and training, vocational specialization
and updating, addressed to the national health service personnel, on occupational
safety and health, aimed at the enrolment in the executive position of the
national health service.

Certification, within hospitals and health care structures, of
occupational safety and advisory on productive measures in the use of thermoelectric and
nuclear energy, of radioactive substances and of any source of energy used
in medical diagnostics and treatment.
