Risk is defined as "the likelihood of an individual undergoing a negative change to his/her state of health following interaction with a potentially harmful factor (risk factor). The database of "Sectoral Risk Profiles" contains information on risks in each single stage of the production cycle as directly observed in a set of firms representing the sector in a given territory. The content of the database constitutes a preliminary information base, produced through research conducted by ISPESL, that is open to all fresh contributions that can update existing profiles, integrate new profiles in the database and provide links to other sources of information that give more detailed information on specific topics dealt with in the profile. The database consists of a flow chart of the production cycle, a document for the sector as a whole and a document for each single work stage. The description of each single stage is, with a few exceptions, contained in eight chapters, as follows:
